12 Week Programme
We provide a reflective space, a rare opportunity for the group (8-10 young people) to share their feelings, their experiences at home & on the estate. Sessions are run by a facilitator and co-facilitator and often mentors are also present in the sessions to develop a relationship with individual youths and support their progress during the week.
Workshops 1-6
They express themselves, share moments of kindness with each other - ‘like a family’ & learn to look after each other as friends. As they tell us, they have never talked about these things before. They map out their current peer relationships, and what relationships they would like to have in the future, build their friendship skills & strengthen their social, personal skills base to increase their social perception - how they ‘read’ any given social situation & roleplay their needs/wants & future prospects. An encounter for youth with survivors of genocide provides an opportunity for them to ‘step into another’s shoes’ in real world situations
Workshops 7-12
These build on the experience of applied empathy & explore their choices & responsibility to act. Through social action (with/ for other people), they will show what they are capable of:
to give & receive support;
to find out where to go for help
& how to advocate for it on behalf of self or another.
Together with their mentors, they undertake a social action project.
6 Week program
We run various 6-week modules developing subtopics of social perception, including:
- developing peer relationships
- problem-solving
- conflict resolution
- decision-making
These are designed to be modular and stackable programmes. A young person may be offered a
single programme, or all three.
